Beta blockers in COPD – a reversal of thinking

Current practice suggests to avoid beta blockers in COPD, because of the bronchospasm associated with their use. This study out of the Netherlands however begs to prove different, suggesting that treatment with beta blockers ‘…may reduce the risk of exacerbations and improve survival…’ and the benefits seem to happen in both those with COPD alone and with concomitant cardiac disease.
