As important as the air we breathe

One of the first treatments in any resuscitation situation, including a myocardial infarction, is the application of high flow oxygen. This has been questioned recently, with several recent small studies going as far as to say that oxygen can be harmful. 


So, when there are questions, a Cochrane review can provide answers, and this one notes that “…there is no hard evidence supporting the use of oxygen in MI.”


It’s going to be hard to shift views on this though – it’s a long standing treatment which does also seem to make sense in theory – we’re going to need a few massive randomised controlled trials before opinions change.
