Winning the fight

Considering that another superbug may be on its way, it’s heartening to see this report from JAMA showing us that the rates of MRSA may be decreasing – at least the MRSA that we’re giving patients in healthcare settings.

Looking at over 21,000 cases of MRSA, the authors found that over 17,000 were health care associated, with over 15,000 of those in the bloodstream. The rates came down 9.4% each year for the hospital onset infections – good news in terms of minimising patient morbidity and mortality from an iatrogenic point of view.
