The fresher pressure

We always say to keep the fruit intake up – after all, there is a vast array of benefits in terms of vitamins and minerals. That said, fructose in the diets of industrialised nations often comes from other sources, like high fructose corn syrup, found in soft drinks. Turns out that they’re bad for you in more than just one way

In this month’s JASN, Jalal and colleagues looked at 4528 adults with no history of hypertension, analysed them and adjusted for diet, exercise, and co-morbidities, and found that fructose intake independently raised blood pressure in this group. 

We already know salt is bad for blood pressure, but maybe its time to take the sugar off the table too? Read more over at JASN here
