Depending on where you’re from and how old you are, you may or may not remember this advertisement from Sunraysia about cranberry juice. It’s been intermittently reported that cranberry juice is actually useful for urinary tract infections – and now here’s some hard evidence.
This story comes from the American Chemical Society, looking at exactly how cranberry juice prevents or even treats urinary tract infections. E. Coli relies on the creation of biofilms, a layer that provides an environment to allow the bacteria to grow on, and cranberry juice prevents this biofilm formation. What’s more, it looks like this effect happens within 8 hours of drinking the juice.
