Leg ulcers are seen all the time, and the usual examination involves considering arterial vs. venous vs. neuropathic. Venous are the most common however, meaning that it’s the one we all need to know the management of. 



The BMJ gives a few great summary points as part of a review on venous disease:

  • clinically, look for
    • lower extremity varicosities
    • oedema
    • venous dermatitis
      • hyperpigmentation
    • lipodermatosclerosis
  • compression for treatment
    • can consider surgery
