The art of physical diagnosis has been severely impacted by the raft of new investigations we have available. In the old days, listening for various murmurs and extra sounds was the diagnostic tool – but now echo has replaced a lot of that. Still, it’s extremely important that we don’t lose these physical examination techniques to improve our diagnostic ability, but which ones do you really need to know?



Stanford have released a list of the ultimate 25 bedside skills that we all need to know, and explains why. It goes all the way from checking deep tendon reflexes to using bedside ultrasound – even the examination of the hand.
