A softer needle



Mosquitoes are annoying – but you never really notice the biting as much as the itchiness afterwards. So how do they get the old proboscis in without you noticing – and how can it make getting needles less painful?



Aoyagi and colleagues have released this work out of Japan, where they use a piezoelectric crystal to rapidly vibrate the needle as it enters the skin – which apparently makes it far less painful on insertion. This might be good for your yearly flu shot,
