Now that you’ve updated yourself on COPD, it’s important to understand prognostication. After all, there are several options to choose from – the respiratory function tests, the echo, the imaging findings – but as in turns out, the best indicator is actually quite simple.
It’s exercise, people – objectively measured by the physical activity index. This study from CHEST used a multi-sensory armband to measure the activity, but also included tests of peripheral vascular disease, cardiac function, and serum markers as well.
Physical activity was the most significant predictor of mortality out of all, but serum adiponectin was alos considered significant. Low numbers in the study, but an important nonetheless.
