An update on cervical cancer screening

No one likes getting a Pap smear done. It can be quite daunting and frightening the first time, but we all know that early detection offers the best chance of cure. Over in the US, a joint group including the American Cancer Society have released some brand new guidelines in screening for cervical cancer.

The Green Journal (the US premier O+G journal) has a nice commentary on the new guidelines, which you can find here. They talk about the evolution of screening, and how things have changed from the old guidelines.

If you’re looking for the new guidelines themselves, they’re here. The Australian link, there’s a guideline from all the way back in 2005 on asymptomatic women, which you can find here.

The resources page has been updated.
